This project was funded in part by an Artist Trust GAP Grant.

When living in Brooklyn I developed an awareness to the urban landscape much like my sense of space developed while growing up in remote Washington State. An interest grew in a particular subway line, the G train. The G train is the only subway that runs through Brooklyn and Queens; it does not go into Manhattan. This train is ridiculed and seen as a source of local distain as it is known to be incredibly slow, unreliable and the wait time for a train intolerable. However, the route of this train is a rich cultural journey, going through at least eight different neighborhoods from start to end. This video installation observes this journey. Video documentation of the above ground route has been edited to the sound and movement of the below ground train ride. It is meant to be a reminder, that as one travels underground, one is also moving through a particular physical environment above ground, providing insight and a sense of poetics to the burden of the G train.

An added element of interaction became a part of this project, the piece was to be experience as a public space and graffiti and hanging out was encouraged.
